Construction of the first communications satellite of Angola, named ANGOSAT, started per the announcement made during the meeting held by Angolan Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Technology in Luanda, Angola. ANGOSAT satellite is scheduled to be ready for launch within 39 months, some time around early 2016. Russian firms headed by Rosoboronexport and RSC Energia are responsible for the construction, launch and in-orbit test phases of the spacecraft. ANGOSAT will be a dual band telecommunications satellite, equipped with 6 Ku and 16 C transponders. Satellite is projected to serve for more than 15 years. Total cost of the project is $320 million.
