International Launch Services press release "The launch of an ILS Proton launch vehicle with the SES-4 satellite was postponed today for approximately 25 days for technical reasons associated with the avionics system of the launch vehicle’s Breeze M upper stage. The additional time is needed due to the required destacking and replacement of the affected avionics unit. International Launch Services (ILS), one of the world's leading satellite launch service providers, announced that Proton-M launcher is selected to launch EUTELSAT W3D satellite during the first quarter of 2013.

EUTELSAT W3D technical info:

"The W3D satellite is being built on the Spacebus 4000 C3 platform by Thales Alenia Space with a launch mass of approximately 5400 kg and a 15 year design life. W3D will be located at 7° East to deliver high power Ku-band coverage of Europe and Turkey for Direct-to-Home (DTH) reception, extensive Ku-band coverage across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia for video links and data networks, and Ku-band coverage of Sub-Saharan Africa and Indian Ocean islands for telecommunications and Internet services."

Astrium is selected to manufacture DIRECTV 15 direct broadcast satellite for the leading US based digital service provider DirecTV. DIRECTV 15 launch is scheduled to take place in late 2014.

DIRECTV 15 technical sepcifications:

"Based on ASTRIUM’s highly reliable Eurostar E3000 platform, the new satellite, DIRECTV 15, will have a payload comprising 30 high power transponders in Ku-band, 24 transponders in Ka-band, 18 transponders in Reverse Band, and will be able to operate from up to five orbital locations from 99°W to 119°W, covering Continental US (CONUS), Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

DIRECTV 15 is scheduled for launch in 2014. The spacecraft will have a launch mass of 6,300 kg, an electrical power of 16 kW and is designed to deliver more than 15 years of in-orbit operations."

ViaSat-1 launch: Mission accomplished!

Proton-M/Briz-M rocket successfully released VIASAT 1 broadband satellite into geostationary transfer orbit. Satellite seperation took place exactly 9-hour 12-minute after lift-off, at 04:00 GMT on October 20. With its 72 Ka band spot beams VIASAT 1 will be used by Wildblue and Xplornet broadband services for securing internet connection to rural areas in the United States and Canada.
